ŚWIERZY Waldemar (1931 - 2013) - wybitny polski grafik, plakacista. Współtwórca Polskiej Szkoły Plakatu, profesor ASP w Poznaniu i Warszawie. Studia odbył w latach 1947-52 w Krakowie. Malarstwa uczył się u prof. Rafała Pomorskiego, grafiki u prof. Józefa Mroszczaka. W 1959 roku otrzymał Grand Prix im. Toulouse-Lautreca na 1. Międzynarodowej Wystawie Plakatu Filmowego w Wersalu za plakat "Czerwona Oberża", zaś w 1962 roku na tej samej wystawie zdobył trzecią nagrodę za plakat "Dwa piętra szczęścia". W 1970 roku otrzymał I nagrodę Prix 10. Biennale de São Paulo. W 1975 i 1985 roku zdobył pierwszą nagrodę na Konkursie Plakatów Filmowych tygodnika "Hollywood Reporter" w Los Angeles ("Ziemia obiecana" - "Psy wojny"). W latach 2003 - 2013 namalował tzw. Nowy poczet władców Polski. Ostatni portret ukończył na kilka dni przed śmiercią. Odznaczony Złotym medalem Zasłużony Kulturze "Gloria Artis". Został pochowany w Alei Zasłużonych na Cmentarzu Wojskowym na Powązkach w Warszawie.
ŚWIERZY Waldemar (1931 - 2013) - an outstanding Polish graphic artist, poster artist. Co-founder of the Polish School of Posters, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and Warsaw. He studied in 1947-52 in Krakow. He studied painting with prof. Rafał Pomorski, graphics with prof. Józef Mroszczak. In 1959 he was awarded the Grand Prix of Toulouse-Lautrec at the 1st International Film Poster Exhibition in Versailles for the poster "Red Oberża", and in 1962 at the same exhibition he won the third prize for the poster "Two floors of happiness". In 1970 he was awarded the 1st Prix of the 10th Biennale de São Paulo. In 1975 and 1985, he won first prize at the Hollywood Reporter's Film Poster Competition in Los Angeles ("The Promised Land" - "Dogs of War"). In the years 2003 - 2013 he painted the so-called A new set of Polish rulers. He completed the last portrait a few days before his death. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture "Gloria Artis". He was buried in Aleja Zasłużonych at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.
